Hallo Volker!
Anscheinend hat die Durchkonatktierung irgendwie Schaden genommen – my fault Ich hab die Lötstelle eigentlich nachgelötet, aber es kam wohl nix "unten" an. Eigentlich hab ich selten Problem mit meinen Lötstellen
Piers MA1 ist auch ein toller Preamp, aber ich muss gestehen der Jensamp gefällt mir spontan besser, klingt noch etwas fetter.

Ich habe letzte Woche den Jensamp rev04 gekauft und gelötet.
Ich kriege leider genau die gleiche Probleme wie Culteousness1/Carsten: Stufen 1 bis 4 ohne Problem, ich kriege ein Signal vom Mikrofon, ab Stufe 5 und weiter kommen ganz laute wiuwiuwiu klak klak.
Das Problem habe ich auch ohne Mikrofon angeschlossen aber dann kommen die Geräusche eine Stufe später (also Stufe 6).
Wenn sie angefangen haben, muss ich dann bis Stufe 1 runter bis die Geräusche aufhören.
Wenn ich mein Signal am Rechner anschaue, sehe ich viel Energie im ultra bass Bereich (unter 10Hz würde ich sagen)
Widerstände habe ich beim bauen gemessen.
Ich benutze einen 51x kompatibel Rack von vanDaal.

Der Jensamp von Culteousness1/Carsten liegt momentan bei mir auf dem Arbeitstisch. Sobald ich sein Problem gefunden habe, beschreibe ich es hier, vielleicht hilft es dir dann auch gleich weiter.

Vielen Dank für deine schnelle Rückmeldung. Ich hoffe das Problem kannst du bald und leicht finden! Ahla, ich dachte ich kaufe einen jensamp weil alle Teile da sind, und ich sicher war, dass ich es für die Aufnahme am nächsten Wochenende benutzen könnte.

Anscheinend sind wir ein Paar bei GroupDIY die die rev4 gebaut haben mit dem gleichen Problem. Ich dachte rev4 wäre nur C7 drehen?

The other "big" difference in rev04 is the change in the output transformer, but I doubt that that would be the problem.
So I was thinking, as this problem seems to affect mainly the newest rev., could it be a bad batch of ASY26's? Im about to order some NOS ASY26's and report back, but maybe someone already tried this?

Kurz aus dem Urlaub, habe gerade mal G3:
Bei rev4 muss nichts mehr gedreht werden.
Vielleicht ist das die Lösung?

Genau, alle Kondensatoren sind jetzt in der gleiche Richtung.

Well...changing the ASY26 didn't change a bit, so that's definitely not the problem...

Ok, so I got the BC560's who Carsten so kindly sent to me. Result: Now all the gain settings either give a load of white noise or have the exact same ticking/oscillating noise. So none of the gain steps actually work...
I'm pretty much at a dead end here...seems this rev.04 just isn't working. To put that into a question: does anyone here (Volker?) have a working rev.04? If so, would it be possible to post some measurements on this thread so we can compare our units?

This is strange. Thanks a lot for the test. I hope we can find a solution soon. Volker should be back from holidays and will hopefully help us with it.

I've got them working!

After desoldering so many parts already I decided to go a step further. I ordered some BC140's and BC109's thinking that Volker may have gotten a bad batch of those. So I replaced the BC140's and guess what: I works.

After thinking this over, I got to three possibilities:
1. The BC140 are indeed a bad batch
2. I "fixed" the unit by soldering in the new components, but in reality the old 140's had one or more cold solder joints (although I reflowed every joint twice...)
3. I've broken one or more BC140's by putting the heatsinks on after soldering them in. I now put the heatsinks on them before soldering them in, avoiding stressing the component.

So now I only have two questions left:
- Do the BC140's have to be matched in any way?
- And why are there 11 dots on the frontpanel, but 12 gain steps?! This has to be asked before, but I couldn't find an answer.

Lesson learned.
