ENHANCED PULTEC DIY

Here is the Thread about the Enhanced Pultec DIY Project.

Component Placement and PCB Layout.

FAQ:

Q: What is it?
A: Its an inductor based Equalizer. Based on the Pulse Technology Pultec EQP1A - but with more frequencies. The frequencies are the same as EveAnna's Manley Enhanced Pultec.

Q: Where can I get pcbs?
A: From Gustav at the prodigy forum
http://www.prodigy-pro.com/diy/index.php?topic=10776.0 18€ for gainstage and filter pcb
I heard that Gustav doesn't sell these pcbse anymore... back to the roots... here is the self-etch-file:
http://www.nrgrecording.de/temporary/En ... layout.pdf

Q: Whats the value of the inductor?
A: 26mH, 39mH, 78mH, 155mH, 312mH
Here is a shop for knobs and the inductor... http://don-audio.com/Startseite

Q: Can I make a tube pultec out of it?
A: Abselutely. You could use Gyraf's nice SRPP Tube Gainstage instead of the Opamp/PSU Gainstage.

Q: I can't find a capacitor with the value X or Y... What can I do?
A: You could wire some capacitors in parallel to get the value you're looking for. Ther are already some paralleled capacitors on the pcb because its easier to find these values in the electronic shops. If you don't have enough space you could solder capacitors to the bottom of the pcb - and don't tell anyone.

Q: Is there a frontpanel template?
A: Yo.

http://www.nrgrecording.de/temporary/Pu ... EQ%203.fpd
http://www.nrgrecording.de/temporary/Ma ... Pultec.fpd

Q: Is it active or passive?
A: There are two pcbs... one is the passive filter (so you could use it with other gainstages like Neve, tube, Gyraf SRPP, whatever) and there is a second, smaller pcb which has a simple opamp gain circuit and a power supply onboard.

Info: I will delete old postings and if there is some important information I will automatically add it to the the first posting.

What are the required inductor values, I couldn't find these anywhere in the documentation.

Thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben.

The inductor values:

26mH, 39mH, 78mH, 155mH, 312mH

(its also written on the silk screen)

THANKS!!

Ahem... don't know exactly. The circuit is the same. I think it was just some minor changes - probably I added a second inductor type which fits on the pcb? (can tell you exactly when you send me the V1 layout) ... or you just compare it yourselfs by looking to both layouts at the same time.

Hello!!
few months ago reading on the forum i have found the enhanched pultec v1documentation
i have done some self etch whit v1
i am wiring inductors at moment
lo boost, lo cut ,hi cut, working ok
have 6db gain difference from bypass and active,
in the gain stage board
fixed whit two trimmes on r18k and r20k on the output
hope is right!!
i have understand the two different inductor size in v1.5
but i have found some little difference in the general layout
are there functional differences ?

thank you!

I also did a home-etched version of the V1 board... loong time ago and it worked fine... so no problems here.
Take a look at the ugly edges of the pcb! prototype...

If you want to adjust the gain you could use a trimmer (manley also did it like this).

Frank.

Looks like. Question: Is this powered or passive ? I do not see any Power connector or similar ?

Also: does somebody have a panel design (.fpd) for this ?

Its a passive filter but there is a second pcb with an opamp gaingstage and power supply.

Can upload a frontpanelfile tomorrow..

Frank.

Stupid question: What else it added at the "Mann Ey" one ? It's really tempting...

Was meinste genau? Wenn ich das englische ins deutsche übersetze verstehe ich nur so viel wie "Was sonst ist hinzugefügt bei dem "Mann Ey" teil" :?: :D

Mal in deutsch: Was unterscheidet beide Versionen des pultec-frontpanels ?
sprich: welche features sind bei dem einen mehr dabei ?
